Research

The Oral Health CRC undertakes research through four integrated programs.

Oral and systemic diseases
  • Seeks to understand the links between oral health issues and oral health demographics. The program will aim to identify, understand and communicate links between oral health and other health issues, providing valuable information and communication tools for Government to set oral health policy, and communicate with specific "at risk" groups.
Prevention and early diagnosis
  • Aims to develop successful preventive tools and chairside diagnostics that will help dentists and the community reduce the prevalence, severity and progression of oral diseases, as well as delivering "at home" solutions to oral diseases.
Intervention and management
  • Aims to develop products for the treatment and management of oral diseases. Outputs will include a vaccine and pharmaceuticals for the treatment of oral disease. The program also aims to up-skill the dental workforce and implement minimal intervention strategies for treatment of oral diseases.
Reconstruction and regeneration
  • Aims to develop novel biocompatible materials, dental implants and regenerative technologies involving stem cells to regenerate bone and periodontal tissue.
